Our volunteer firefighters respond to a variety of emergencies and help their neighbors in their greatest time of need. No experience is necessary to become a volunteer firefighter and we accept new applicants starting at age 16. Board of Director
A Board of Director serves the fire company behind the scenes. Directors manage the fiscal matters of the company and provide services in legal matters, fundraising, budgeting, facilities management, IT, public relations, grant writing and in many other areas. Be sure to print out an application from below and send along to membership@glensidefire.com.
Whether you’re looking to volunteer in the community, help others, or make new friends, there’s a place for everyone in Glenside Fire Company! Our firefighting force consists of high school students, college students, tradespeople, office workers, stay-at-home parents, and even retirees. We accept new members starting at age 16 and no experience is necessary!
If you live, work, or attend school in the Glenside, Wyncote, Laverock, or Arcadia University area, we want to hear from you! If you’ve considered becoming a volunteer firefighter but have been worried about finding the time, rest assured that anyone can fit volunteer firefighting into their busy life. Every new member finds a way to contribute to our mission and we are appreciative of every member’s effort, no matter how big or small.
Volunteer firefighting looks great on college applications and resumes and the feeling that comes with helping others is immeasurable. When you join Glenside Fire Company, you’re not just joining an organization, but rather, it’s more like having a second family. We are actively recruiting new firefighters. There are several different types of membership including:
- Interior Firefighter: Our traditional membership position.
- Junior Firefighter: A 16 or 17 year old member.
- Trained Firefighter: If you are a volunteer firefighter or career firefighter in another jurisdiction and want to run some extra calls, get in touch with us. We have an incredibly inclusive environment and we welcome trained firefighters from other companies to run calls with us.
- Riding Member: A trained firefighter from another company who responds to calls with us.
- Driver Only: Our Driver Only firefighters are only responsible for driving and operating fire apparatus.
